Dachshund Derby

The most chaotic, hilarious, and heartwarming race in Nashville. Dachshunds of all sizes sprint — or meander — down the track in front of thousands of cheering fans.

ABOUT THE DERBY

The Race Nashville Has Been Waiting For

The Dachshund Derby is one of Nashville Oktoberfest's most beloved and entertaining events. Dachshunds — the official dog of Oktoberfest — gather from across the region to compete in a series of heats, culminating in a championship race.

Whether your wiener dog is a seasoned competitor or a first-time racer (who will almost certainly run the wrong direction), the Derby is pure joy for participants and spectators alike.

Costumes are strongly encouraged. The crowd is loud. The dogs are unpredictable. It's everything Oktoberfest should be.

FAQ

Common Questions

My dachshund has never raced before — is that okay?

Absolutely. Most of our competitors are first-timers. The Dachshund Derby is about fun, not athletic performance. If your dog runs the wrong way, that's half the entertainment.

Can I enter more than one dog?

Yes! If you have multiple dachshunds, each can be entered separately. Each dog needs its own registration.

What if my dog refuses to run?

It happens every year — and the crowd loves it. Your dog will still be celebrated. We have a 'Most Dramatic' award for exactly this scenario.

Do I need a ticket to watch?

Yes — festival admission (GA or VIP) is required to attend the event and watch the derby.
